Business During Hours Held at New River Community & Technical College

Business During Hours for the month of July was held on Thursday, July 14 at noon at the Summersville campus of New River Community & Technical College.

Marianne Taylor, Director of the Chamber welcomed guests and took time to allow all those in attendance to introduce themselves and make any announcements about upcoming events pertaining to their business or organization.

Following introductions, Marianne thanked the college for hosting this month’s event and then welcomed Gary Wilcox, marketing professor at the college, to speak to guests concerning the upcoming marketing seminar for the small business.

“I am looking very forward to leading this seminar, to be held on Wednesday, July 27 here at the Summersville campus from 9am-4pm. I will be teaching about marketing plans, tourism, off-line and on-line marketing, newspaper, radio, and television advertising, social media marketing and plan to teach how to develop a website,” said Wilcox.

Dean Fred Culler next spoke about some of the upcoming classes being offered at the college, including a mine certification course, photography classes, selling on E-Bay and more. He also emphasized the desire for the college to be involved in the community and expressed his appreciation to the community for embracing the Summersville campus and taking advantage of all the college has to offer, for both traditional and non-traditional students.

Mary Igo, Workforce Education Program Specialist invited guests to enjoy lunch and then awarded several door prizes.

Business members in attendance included New River Community & Technical College, Nicholas County Senior Center, Mid State Auto, Bill Dyer Insurance, SRMC, Nicholas Pharmacy, American Red Cross, Summersville Lake Retreat, Papa John’s Pizza, Friends R Fun, United Bank, US Cellular, Bright Enterprises, Community Trust Bank, Summit Media Radio, WWSW 95.7 Radio, City of Summersville, Shafer Insurance, Hardman’s Hardware, Chameleon Heath Care, Ken Altizer, Ray Moeller, Frontier Communications, and GPI Storage.
